Chandler's 1st Surgery!!

Chandler's tonsils and adenoids were HUGE so they HAD to come out.  They didn't really seem to bother her, but Eddie and I have been watching her sleep and it was SCARY.  Several times during every sleep period, she would stop breathing.  We mentioned it to our pediatrician, who referred us to an ENT and the ENT said that her tonsils were "gigantic" and needed to come out.  We mentally prepped Chan for her surgery and she was so excited!
We had to wake her at 5am the day of the surgery and she was giggly and giddy about having this procedure.  I knew it would likely go well because she has a surprisingly high pain tolerance and is an EXCELLENT patient.  As expected, she did GREAT!!  This is her after surgery.
The doctors and nurses were all super-impressed with her and said she should give lessons to other kids.  They said some children are sad, or angry, or crazy after surgery.  Sweet Chan just peacefully slept.  One time she came to for a minute and said she wanted a popsickle.

She couldn't stay awake enough to take a lick, but every time we tried taking it away, it would rouse her just enough to hang on and try again.  Hilarious.  They used a coblator which is the latest in technology for this procedure that promotes quick healing.  Because they used it, the doctor said there were no dietary restrictions...they just told us to let Chan be the judge of what she felt up to having.
She was pretty groggy all day and didn't really want to talk (HIGHLY UNUSUAL) or have anyone mess with her.  EXCEPT for Gibson...he was allowed to crawl all over her and even played with her hair for a long period of time.  She said it was fine because he was her baby brother.  Melt. My. Heart!  When she finally came out of her fog, she woke up and asked for crackers and ate them with no problem at all!!!  Then played My Little Pony's with B the rest of the night.
Several dear sweet precious friends brought over treats for her.  Koli and Kiaya brought her this cool thermos contraption where we can make our own slushies with these special ice cubes...no blender needed!  And they brought her every shade of nail polish, a Sophia the First lunchbox, and a Hello Kitty Ring Pop.  If you know this child, you know these are her very favorite things!!
Another sweet friend brought her stickers, coloring books, colored pens, markers, notepad, etc.!
And her ENTIRE class made her "Get Well" cards!!  She read each and every one and talked about the pictures they'd drawn for her and hugged each card.  Blew my mind!!
She really never had any pain or discomfort.  Occasionally, the following week, when she was on zero pain meds, she MIGHT mention it being a little sore while eating.  She's AMAZING!

BIG HUGE thanks to my mom for staying with the other 2 while we took her to surgery.  (After already being here for a week while we skied and went to a wedding)  Yeah, we are very spoiled by the best parents/in laws ever!

And, for those of you who know Brooklyn, you might wonder how she handled all this extra Chandler attention and extra gifts for just Chan???  Mostly surprisingly great!  She was concerned for and happy for her sister, except once.  One night after she went to bed, I let Chan have her Hello Kitty Ring Pop.  She had forgotten to tell me goodnight and unexpectedly came out of her room to tell me and saw that not only was Chan getting to stay up late, but also get a treat after they'd already had dessert!?!  She had a tough time with that one, but other than that, handled it much better than I'd expected. =)
