Brooklyn's 1st Ever Soccer Season!

Brooklyn did "soccer" a couple of years ago, but it was more like practice.  They didn't compete against other teams and they did drills where everyone had their own ball.  This was her first time ever to participate in a competitive, organized sport!
And here she is with her team...
The Lil Toe Jammers
(I'm not kidding)

She was doing fine at practice, learning how to dribble around cones and how to kick it into the soccer goal...
Then it was finally time for her first real game.  She was all decked out in shin guards, cleats, team ribbon and looking good!!
She wasn't a starter (per my request) because I wanted her to get to see first how the game was structured.  And when it was finally her turn???
TEARS!!!  It was really upsetting to her that the other girls on the field weren't "sharing" with her.
And did I mention it was really HOT outside?  The heat made her "legs very tired and she couldn't run."

As the season progressed, we had lots of talks about "not crying" and just at least running around and getting exercise.  We told her that exercise made her heart so happy

There were no more tears after the first game.
And her participation on the field continued to improve
The temperature continued to cool down which surprisingly enabled "her legs to run really fast."
She looked forward to going each week.
And every once in a while, the ball would land at her feet and she would dribble down the field in front of the pack...until someone from the other team caught her and kicked the ball the other way, which didn't seem to bother her at all, but provided much excitement for her super-competitve mom!!  =)
And just a side note...Chandler was her biggest fan and my best sideline buddy each week!!
PERFECT little soccer cheerleader!
The practice before there final game.  She made a serious breakthru...they scrimmaged at the very end of practice and she scored not 1,  BUT 2 goals!!  I really thought the last game might be our game to finally score...but I was wrong.  Terribly wrong.  A cold front had come thru and I learned that her "abilities" on the field were directly related to the weather.  It was too cold for her to move.  At.  All.  It was a very anticlimactic finish to our season.  BUT - as part of their end of season award, they had a little carnival set up for them after their game which was super-fun!

I'm not sure who was having more fun...Eddie or the girls.
The tractor ride was really loud!
And finally, I'll leave you with another team picture that is probably a more accurate reflection of our team of little misfits.
Although no one was "officially" keeping score, we lost every single game and were really excited each week if we even scored.  I'm thinking things will have to improve next season, right?!?
