Brooklyn's 1st Swim Meet

Brooklyn was SOOO excited about her first swim meet.
It didn't start until 6 pm and she started begging to get ready around 10 am.
She got to wear her new suit, new team swim cap, new goggles and new tattoo that she won at the spaghetti dinner the night before to "carb load."
And she thought it was HILARIOUS that we wrote ON HER SKIN with a marker.
They want the kids name and age on their backs and their event numbers on their forearms so that can make sure all the right kids swim the right events.
Her fun and comical coach made her a "faststache" on her finger to help her "swim faster."
In practice, they had not yet learned about the starting blocks so she had to figure it out on the fly.
Gotta love the froggy stance!  =)
Her first event was a relay race with 3 other girls.  The girl that was supposed to go first got scared...was the last to jump in the water...then turned around and swam right back, crying.  Brooklyn was standing next to her because she was supposed to go 3rd, but in a rush they told her to just jump in and start swimming.
She nailed it!  So proud!

She completed 4 events.  The last of which was the butterfly.
Here is coach Nicki reminding her how to do the butterfly seconds before she begins her race.
 Precious!
Notice, she finally nailed the stance on her last race!
And here are her results:
The blue ribbon was for the first relay...remember, the first girl freaked out, so they only swam 3 of the four distances which is how they won???  Apparently, they don't factor those trivial sorts of things in at this age group.  =)

We were so proud of Brooklyn!  She swam so much and so hard.  She told her coach afterwards that she was "taking her time" on her races so I am not sure she totally grasps this whole thing yet, but it was a great first meet.  (I think she gets kudos at school and at home for "taking her time" so she was saying it to make her coach proud.  We will work on it.)

Way to go, B!
