Memorial Day Weekend 2011

Sentimental Sunday

Chandler (who was sadly very feverish) wore Brooklyn's old Easter dress

and Brooklyn wore Lawson's old special occasion dress to church
After church (and after a little tylenol for Chandler), Mom and Dad had a playdate with B &C

While Eddie and I had a date of our own!!  We went to the Byron Nelson and had SO. MUCH. FUN!!
I was really just excited to spend some time in the sunshine and relax and didn't think I'd care that much about the actual golf  being played, but I was wrong!!

I was TOTALLY into it!!  As it turns out, I think I can get into just about any sport if I'm attending the event live and in person!!  I can't wait for the Byron Nelson to come around next year and I'm pretty certain I'll be able to drag Eddie along with me :)!!

Memorial Day Morning

A Little Snuggling with Mimi and DooDad
Before heading to the water park

Then home to celebrate with a cookout followed up by some yummy and patriotic cookie cake!

And finished off with a little playing in the backyard on the swingset...

Very fun times!!

Potty Training: Round 3

(Again, this post is mostly for me to look back at when I start potty training Chandler...and maybe for encouragement to any parents who may be having difficulty in potty training.  No pictures or anything fun.)

So, after 2 rounds of intense and frustrating attempts to potty train Brooklyn, I was totally defeated and she was nowhere closer to grasping the concept.  I was really giving up and hoping that maybe when she was 10, she would notice that all of her friends were in panties and that diapers really weren't cool anymore.  Everyone kept telling me that maybe she wasn't ready.  She was almost 3!!!  If not now, then when might she "be ready"?!?  And everyone kept telling me that 1 day it would just click.  Yeah, right.  Everyone also said that she would nap at school.  In the over 36 kids that Brooklyn's teachers had taught over the past couple of years SHE was the ONE that wouldn't cooperate at nap time and now, she was going to be the ONE child that would never be potty trained.  I know.  I was totally a Debbie-downer.  After about a week of potty-training depression and steering clear of anything revolving around B and the potty, I decided to take a different approach.

Potty Training: Round 3

Since Brooklyn refused to even sit on the potty, I decided that part of our routine would be for her to have to at least sit on the potty anytime she wanted something.  If she asked to eat, television, a toy that was out of her reach, a drink, to go outside, ANYTHING, (when I remembered) my response was, "sit on the potty, then you can ________."  For about 3 weeks, we were averaging about 1 success a week.  The math: sitting on the potty about 6 times a day x 7 days a week  = 42 times on the potty  and 1 success a week.  Impressive, huh? (insert sarcasm)

Then, during our 4th week of this which was about a month ago (April 22nd...not that I'm keeping track), it clicked!!  So for all of you who told me this would happen, I apologize for doubting you!!  We were in my bathroom while I was getting ready and she ASKED to go potty.  Surely, I thought, this was a fluke, but, when I took her, SHE WENT!!  Then she asked to go twice more that day!!  For about the next week, whenever we were at home, I kept her in panties with ZERO accidents.  I started noticing that when I put her in pull-ups, though, they would be wet.  So, I started keeping her in panties when we would go run errands (SCARY!!) and she would keep them dry.  And the following week (about 2 weeks after the day it clicked), I started sending her to school in panties and she never had an accident.  The next week I started putting her down for naps in panties.

To date, we have not had 1 accident in public (running errands, at school, church) or while she is sleeping in panties.  With that being said, I DO still put her in pull-ups at night for bed and when travelling long distances.  I could also probably entertain you for hours with my nightmare stories of trying to take her in public while holding Chandler.  YUCK!!  But for now, I will say that I think she is at last, at 34-months, potty-trained!!  Although I really hate saying that out-loud because that pretty much guarantees us a MAJOR accident today. =)

We're Off to See the Wizard

My friend ended up with some extra tickets to the Wizard of Oz and invited Brooklyn and I to go.  Those of you who know Brooklyn, know that she has a LOT of energy and is not always extremely cooperative so I wasn't totally sure how she would do, but she BLEW ME AWAY!!  She was a little ancy while we were in our seats waiting for the show to start, but once it did, she just sat in my lap completely still and completely in AWE of the show.  When we went to intermission, she said she wanted more!!  She didn't even seem the least bit frightened during the scenes with the Wicked Witch of the West. (which were a little scarier than I was thinking they would be)  After the show, the main characters were giving autographs.

Brooklyn, who normally LOVES costume people, was a little stand-off-ish at the first table with Dorothy, Glenda and the WWW.  Some parents might have been disappointed, but I was actually ELATED that my normally fearless daughter was a little apprehensive about the SCARY, GREEN, LONG-NOSED WICKED witch!!  Such a normal and healthy response for a 2-year-old.  Way to go, B!

When we got to the second table, she got a little closer and seemed to like the scarecrow, but by the time we got to the 3rd table, she was SMITTEN with the TINMAN.

And, I can't say for sure, but I think the feelings might have been mutual.

She was all about the munchkins

And she was all about hanging with the big girls (our neighbors, Alexa and Abi).  You could tell she thought she was so big and thought it was such a special treat to be spending the afternoon with them.
And they were so helpful about holding her hand and keeping her with them!!  Thanks girls!!

And then, after all of the excitement (which was during our usual naptime), she crashed on the way home.

9 Months Old!

9 Months Old
Oh how I love this little munchkin!!

Stats:
Ht:  28 inches, 65%
(although I watched them measure her and she was crooked, so I think she is actually a little taller than that)
Wt:  19 lbs, 1.5 oz, 60%
HC:  17, 25%

So she is more like a medium-size baby now with a small head.  (If they measured cheeks, though, I'm sure she'd be in the 90th%!!)

Chandler is at the age where she is crawling EVERYWHERE and getting into EVERYTHING!!
She LOVES to empty out some cabinets!

I took this next picture 4 times...everytime the flash made her blink and she was smiling in everyone of them.
So proud of herself!

At 9 months Chandler:
has just started to be able to feed herself finger foods
waves
claps
gives high five
is VERY ticklish
has taken up to 8 steps all by herself
has 3 teeth (and almost 1 more on the top)
says da-da, ma-ma, ba-ba, uh-oh and grrrrrrr
She has been able to pull up in her crib now for sometime now, but only recently has it become a problem. She feels like it her job as a baby to stand in the crib, even if she is crazy exhausted! The other day I let her cry it out, then went in to find her like this:

She has also had her first encounter with a swimming pool.  We were at a cook-out at a house with a pool.  I didn't bring her suit, but told Eddie just to put her feet in.  She HATED it!
Probably my very FAVORITE thing about Chandler right now is that she is a LAP BABY!!
If you are outside, she will just sit in your lap FOREVER without arching her back or trying to get down.  So snuggly and FABULOUS!!

Mother's Day 2011

This Mother's Day got off to a great start with a Mother's Day brunch at Brooklyn's school!
Brooklyn has been blessed with some FABULOUS teachers this year and they really went all out to make this brunch very special for us!!
I really don't think these pictures do justice to how cute everything looked in real life.
After we ate, the teachers had the kids sing some songs to us...one of them being "You Are My Sunshine."  Each kid had a sunshine to hold while singing this song and unfortunately, B's went missing just before the performance so she was too upset to participate.  Bummer!
My family (aka - Eddie) really went all out this year and set the bar really high for future Mother's Days!!

They gave me a really sweet card and tickets to game 4 of the Mavs vs. Lakers NBA play-off series!!
If you think I'm being sarcastic or that this gift might have been a little selfish on Eddie's part, you're totally wrong!!
I love the Mavericks.  Every year.  But some years, I'm just really SUPER into it.  This year would be one of those years.  I mean, I drink redbull late in the day just so I can stay up to watch every last minute of the game...even when Eddie goes to bed.  So getting tickets to this game, was SOOO exciting for me.  And Eddie even lined up the childcare!!

Eddie and I have been to several Mavs game and NEVER have we experienced this kind-of energy and hype.  Just look at this sea of blue!!
Eddie, who watches A LOT of basketball, said this was as close to perfect as he has ever seen a team play!  AND it was against Phil Jackson and the Lakers.  So incredibly fun to get to be a part of this history in the making as the Mavericks completed the Lakers SWEEP when no one even thought they would win the series.  I'm still not over it.  Thanks, family, for a fabulous Mother's Day treat!!

p.s.  Chandler, who is not even 9-months-old yet, took her first 3 steps yesterday and didn't even fall down!!  Way to go, Chandler!!

Our Weekend with the Wyatt Girls!!

Brooklyn LOVES it when her friends, Ava and Macy come to play at our house.
Bath time is more fun!
Waking up is more fun!
(Ava and Macy went in with me to wake Brooklyn up, but I'm not sure she is totally awake yet in this picture.)

And everyday activities are JUST. MORE. FUN!

Ben and Brooke (their parents) had gone house-hunting so we had these fun, sweet girls all to ourselves!
Brooke was really worried about doubling our load.
As you can see, though, my day was actually easier with their help!
Thanks for coming to play Ava and Macy!!  Please come back soon!
